Sobre este artículo
London: Printed for A. Millar, 1744. Full-Leather. Fair. Volume III only. Folio, rebound in 20th century dark brown calf with original brown calf overlaid on boards, raised spine bands, red leather spine label; all edges red, original front endpapers retained (ffep rebacked). Folding engraved plates, occasional woodcut devices at chapter endings. Lacking one of five folding plates at rear, else complete. [2] 652pp.+ plates. [A2] B2-Z2 Aa2-Zz2 Aaa2-Zzz2 4A2-Z2 5A2-Z2 6A2-Z2 7A2-Z2 8A2-C2. Normal wear to original calf, new calf supple and unmarred, dark 4" slit to front board calf; later bookplate on front pastedown, contemporary bookplate on title page verso with name effaced; soiling to original endpapers, dampstains and light foxing throughout, worming to late text and extensively to plates. Most worming has unfortunately been 'repaired' with waxy clear tape. Shed snakeskin laid in as bookmark at p191. Robert Boyle (1627-1691) was one of the originators of modern chemistry. He was also deeply religious and attempted to demonstrate doctrinal and theological proofs through the application of the scientific method. In this work (originally issued as one of five volumes), Boyle tackles the usual suspects of Natural Philosophy (the weight of the air, the quirks of vacuums, effluviums etc.), but also expounds on "The Excellency of Theology" and the "Reconcileableness of Reason and Religion." An externally attractive and still quite serviceable copy. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall.
