Contemporary previous owner address label at top of front fixed endpaper, sticker "Sold by the California Historical Society 1950" on rear endpaper.. [9], (xxviii), 10-(157) pp., 4 plates. Between pages 99 and 100 are 20 pages numbered 100a -g plus 3 unnumbered pages, including an illustration and 2 leaves of pink paper printed on rectos only; 12mo, original black cloth with paper spine label, gilt front cover title. Both spine label and cover title read: "Psychological Autobiographeries."
Humorous verses, parodies, satires, and a few cryptic illustrations. The 28 pages near the beginning of the book (Roman numeral section) contain a parody titled "The Cruise of the Snark" telling the tale of the voyage of Jacques London and his wife Charmeois London. The voyage ends in comical tragedy. The author's motto, appearing throughout the volume in an engraved vignette is "Mundus Vult Decipi" - "The world wants to be deceived."
