London : John Walker, 1794-1801. First edition. Leather. Good. 9" by 5.5". None. The works of satirical writer, Peter Pindar. The first three volumes form the 1st edition of Pindar's satirical poems. These three volumes were then followed by the publication a further two volumes which complete Pindar's works. All volumes are the first editions of Pindar's complete works. Volumes I-III are dated 1794, Volume IV is 1796, and volume V 1801. Peter Pindar was a pseudonym for John Wolcot. Wolcot began his writings of satire in 1780. His early satires regarded members of the Royal Academy before proceeding to writing on the King and Queen. In full mottled calf bindings. Externally, sound with slight rubbing to the joints and to the spines. Small patches of rubbing to the extremities, which are bumped. Rear hinge to volume I is tender. Front hinge to volume II is tender with cords showing, the joint is starting but firm. Cracks to front joint of volume III with the hinge strained but firm. Rear hinge to volume III is strained but firm. Loss to head and tail of spine to volume III. Both joints and hinges are tender to volume V. Loss to the head and tail of spine to volume IV. Hinges and joints to volume V are tender. Loss to the head and tail of spines to all volumes, worse to volumes IV, III and V. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are age toned. Spotting throughout all volumes with instances of light patches of foxing, mostly to margins. Good
