Octavo. 30 volumes bound in red three-quarters leather with raised bands over marbled boards and matching endpapers. Gilt lettering on the spine. Minor rubbing or dark spots on a few spines, but otherwise near fine condition. Bookplates inside the front covers. Deckled edges with different illustrators engravings of the author's and other peoples' images on the frontispiece. A clean text block. Thomas Carlyle was a renowned Scottish essayist, satirist, historian and mathematician.
