Sobre este artículo
London: Chapman and Hall, 1858-1888. Cloth. Very Good. 8" by 5". None. A collection of works by British essayist and historian, Thomas Carlyle. In the original publisher's blue cloth binding. This is a collection of seven volumes comprised of Sartor Resartus - Lectures on Heroes - Chartism- Past and Present [1888]; The French Revolution - A History (1888); Critical and Miscellaneous Essays, Four Volumes in Two [1888]; History of Friedrich II of Prussia called Frederick the Great, in three volumes, c1888. Sartor Resartus - Lectures on Heroes - Chartism- Past and Present was dated using Jisc, from copies held at the University of Oxford libraries. Critical and Miscellaneous Essays was also dated using Jisc, from copies held at the University of Cambridge. History of Friedrich II was dated in a similar way, referring to copies held at the British Library. Sartor Resartus contains many different essays covering a number of topics. The Lectures on Heroes chapter explores the idea of the Hero as King, Priest and Prophet. Carlyle also refers to Chartism, with the condition of England being brought into question, along with the new era. Within Carlyle's Critical Essays, we are presented with ideas on Goethe, Burns, as well as German Literature and Playwrights. This collection includes three volumes of work on Frederick the Great, or Friedrich II, split into twenty-one chapters, or 'books'. These books go from Friedrich's birth and parentage, to his illness and death, whilst exploring various battles and personal events as his life unfolded. With a frontispiece of Friedrich II to volume one. The French Revolution volume covers aspects including the death of Louis XV, the constitution and different parliaments during this period. With a frontispiece of Thomas Carlyle. Stamp of Sidney L. Oster to the front endpaper. In the original, blue, publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart, with light rubbing to the extremities and the occasional mark to boards. Slight bumping to the extremities and to the head and tail of the spine. Light fading to the spine. Light age toning, offsetting and spotting to endpapers. Stamp of Sidney L. Ostler to the front endpaper of The French Revolution. Internally, firmly bound. Pages mostly bright and clean, with light age toning and the odd spot. Pages occasionally unopened. Slight spotting to the fore edge of The French Revolution. Very Good
