FROM THE PREFACE:This is the Fifth Edition of WORLD BIOGRAPHY, The previous edition of which was published six years ago, in 1948. Recorded herein are the world's notable living artists, writers, scholars, scientists, physicians, jurists, lawyers, religious leaders, educators, philosophers, musicians, statesmen, business heads and military figures. WORLD BIOGRAPHY is dedicated to those men and women of the world who, by increasing their knowledge of other people, desire to gain a clearer and more sympathetic understanding of each other's problems, hopes and aspirations. Reflected in the many thousands of new and revised biographies are not only the significant technological advances recently made, bu social and political changes which but a few years ago might have been regarded as inconceivable by historians and political scientists. Vast gains by medical science are noted in the published up-to-date sketches of eminent physicians, surgeons, physiologists and distinguished research workers. All living Nobel Prize Winners are listed, giving a comprehensive resume of their notable achievements. The problems inherent in reaching our objectives were many and varied. Assignments to new posts, changes in positions and travel represented just a few of the difficulties encountered in reaching subjects. Consequently the preparation of material contained in WORLD BIOGRAPHY demanded patient and exhaustive research.
CONDITION:
Bound in red percaline with gold characters. The binding is sewn and is strong and firm. The corners of the cover are slightly bent. The content is complete and totally clean.
