Jazz Information, 1940. Softcover. Very Good. October 25, 1940 issue of legendary "hot jazz" magazine Jazz Information. Vol. 2, No. 7. Trombone player pictorial to cover. Contents include feature articles on Chicago jam sesssions, Cow Cow Davenport, Henry Allen, Jr. and jazz classics. Also includes detailed reviews of new and classical jazz albums, notes on important collector's records (often obscure and rediscovered), news features on bands, jazz musicians of the day, etc., historical photos of performers and more. Scarce. 24 pp. 8 1/2" x 5 1/2". Tight, unmarked copy with minimal shelf wear and lightly rusted staples. Published for only two years, JI was a non-commercial, color-blind magazine that gained acclaim for its focus on serious jazz for advanced enthusiasts rather than quasi-jazz, also for its unbiased, exceptionally informed articles and reviews. Octavo (8 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches) Oakland, California, early 20th century paper advertisement printed on coated stock folded once to form four panels printed on both sides, illustrated with halftone sepia photos of the interior rooms and a bird's-eye map on the back cover. Original, good condition (rubber stamp of Peck-Judah on one panel, not affecting contents).

Promoting Oakland and the Hotel Metropole, that burned down in 1918.
