Odhams,, [1939]. 2 vols., 8vo., First Edition thus, with portrait frontispiece and 6 facsimiles (2 double-page and 4 full-page), 39 maps, charts and diagrams (19 double-page and 20 full-page) and 12 smaller maps, charts and diagrams all in the text, tops lightly dust-soiled; original red pebble-grain cloth blocked in gilt and blind, gilt backs, red tops, marbled endpapers, upper board of second volume lightly faded at upper edge else a very good, bright, clean copy. First two-volume edition, containing the unabridged text of the original four volumes augmented with revisions from the 1931 re-issue. For this edition, Churchill prepared a new Foreword to Vol. I and an updated Appendix I in Vol. II. In order to achieve the compression, the publishers provided slightly fewer and smaller maps. See Woods, p.46; ICS A31f.
