Selected and compiled by Smart, Johnson & Goldsmith. Plates engraved by Harrison, Thackars, Scot, Allardice, Reiche, Seymour, Shallus, Trenchard and Barker. Printed by Thompson; colophon in V. 1, 3, 6, y. Vols 3-5 published in 1795; Vols 1, 6 & 8 published in 1796. Title pages engraved; title page for Vol 6 is missing. Vols 5 & 7 have the table of contents and plate listings at rear. In the complete 8 volume set 57 engraved plates are called for. There are 32 plates remaining in these 7 volumes, including 4 frontispieces and 1/2 of a folding map. Vol 1; [2], 504p, 6 leaves of plates. Bookseller's label tippen in to front pastedown. Hinges weak; missing top .5 inch of spine. Vol 3: [2], 487, [1]p, 6 leaves of plates. Dated 1795. Some worm holes to lower edge of first several leaves. With a letter per page loss of text. Some pieces of ephemera from an earlier time were presumably fixed to both inside covers with red sealing wax, remnants of which remain. Frontis lacking[? ]. Vol 4: [2], 464 [ie 472]p. ,5 leaves of plates. Dated 1795. Some chipping at spine ends. Vol 5: [2], 485, [1]p. ,5 leaves of plates. Chipping to top of spine, Frontis lacking [? ] Blank endpapers missing. Vol 6: [2], 464p. , 6 leaves of plates. Frontis and title page missing; last two plates missing, but do not appear to have been bound in, PP 49-50 is bound in a few leaves earlier than it should be. Vol 7: [2], 510p; 4 leaves of plates. Vol 8: [2], 464, 24p. , 4 leaves of plates. Several errors in paging throughout as usually seen. For example pgs 457-472 misnumbered 449-464. Uniformly bound in full period tree calf with red leather title and volume labels to spines (several lacking). Boards and exterior hinges intact, though tender where noted. Foxing throughout. Evans 29926, Evans 31664. G++ to VG- thus. ... Oversize book may require additional charges for expedited or international shipping. .
