London, 1781. An earlier version of the Bowen map of 1795. Polar projections of both the North and South Pole, over a mercator projection of the equator. The map notably tracks Cook's 2nd voyage, in which he was the 1st to cross the Antarctic Circle. Also tracks Capt. Phipps, "now Lord Mulgrave". Copper engraving, 16 1/2 x 9 1/2", sml. margin, contemporary folds, trimmed just within the left border, o/w very nice.
