In 1797 the merchant vessel Sydney Cove on the way to Port Jackson from India met with severe storms and was wrecked amongst the Furneaux Islands of Bass Strait. The story is based on a diary kept by one of the survivors and is a little known tale of trial and endurance, death and survival and although dramatized is based on real life events. The only hope was to send some of their number in the longboat to Port Jackson to raise the alarm - that boat was wrecked off the Victorian coast and its 17 crew began a 400 mile walk to the distant colony and only three made it. 257 pages with 5 illustrations and 14 maps. Book and dust jacket in near fine condition.
