AN EARLY QING DYNASTY BOOK . . . WITH PREFACE DATE OF QIAN LONG 17TH. YEAR [1752] . . . EDITED, REVISED & ANNOTATED BY CAI YUANFANG . . . FROM THE ORIGINAL "ZHOU LIE GUOZHI" . . * Written in traditional Hanzi Text, woodblock Printed & Illustrated. . The original work was named: "ZHOU LIE GUOZHI," the 'new' edition is called "XIN ZHOU LIE GUOZHI" but is published as "DONG ZHOU LIE GUOZHI." . This set is bound in 12 separate stitched volumes, containing a total of 23 Juan [volumes] text, 108 Hui [chapters] in all, with 24 line drawings. The book is entirely woodblock printed, and complete as issued. . The whole set is contained in two wooden covers, with two hand-loomed cotton ribbon ties, in the traditional Chinese binding. . Volume 1 has a preface date of 1752. . Contents has 2 chapters per each stitched bound volume. . At the top of the title page is: Tong Zhì Shí Nian Xin Juan [Tongzhi Shinian New Engraving.] . *** THE AUTHOR: FENG Menglong [1574-1646]: . He used the 'courtesy' [studio] names Youlong, Gongyu, Ziyou or Eryou. He was a Chinese historian, novelist, and poet of the late Ming Dynasty. During the reign of Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty, Cai Yuanfang made some revisions to the "New Records of the Kingdoms", and added the preface, reading method, detailed comments and brief annotations, and renamed it DONG ZHOU LI GUO ZHI [The Records/Chronicles of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty."] See Wikipedia article. . *** THE EASTERN ZHOU PERIOD: Dongzhou: 770-256 BC., was the second half of the Zhou dynasty of ancient China. It was divided into two periods: the "Spring and Autumn" and the "Warring States." The wooden show minor scuffing, dustiness, & bit of usual wear, each brush labeled 'wai' or 'nei' [out or inside], else solid, heavy wood. . The set has title & volume numbers stamped on the lower edges of each volume as usual. . *** A RARE CHINESE CLASSIC: This set is among some of the most famous classics ever written in China. . *** Color photos are posted to our website. . *** CONDITION: This set is bound in the publisher's original pink paper wrappers, each a bit dusty, but clean and no marks. There were no title slips issued. . The contents are likewise exceptionally clean, no issues. . The work is printed on double-folded leaves, and stitched spines in traditional Chinese book binding style. .
