Full red Morocco double ruled in gilt with beautiful, elaborate gilt decorations. Corners bumped with mild rubbing to joints and top and bottom of spine. Gilt decorations and lettering to spine. All edges gilt. Black and gold patterned endpapers. Pages lightly tanned and very clean, excepting occasional smudge. Title-page lettered in black and red. Lavishly illustrated with 55 plates total (21 of which are vibrantly colored chromolithograph), and 322 black and white in-text illustrations. Decorative headpieces, tailpieces, and historiated initials throughout. Very beautiful book. Profusely illustrated book that surveys the institutions, customs, and fashions of eighteenth-century France from 1700 until the French Revolution. By the French author and journalist Paul Lacroix. Includes chapters on the king and court, nobility, bourgeoise, common people, the army, parlement, clergy, etc.
