Sobre este artículo

Small quarto (9 1/2 X 6 1/2 inches) San Francisco: Paul Elder, 1906. Original hard cover, thick green cloth binding, 72 unnumbered pages printed in two colors on watermarked deckle-edged paper.

Decorative black and white line drawings by Spencer Wright, in the margins surrounding the text, representing people working in gardens; Art nouveau image of a potted plant on cover - its tendrils reaching for the title in gilt, and repeated on spine.

Printed by the Tomoye Press, under the direction of Harry Nash; decorative end papers (small unobtrusive stamp of previous owner in margin of first fly leaf, and repeated in pencil on back of first fly leaf) good condition (minor age toning to covers and spine, not affecting contents which are clean).

A collection thoughts on gardens and gardening that includes quotations from Joseph Addison, Oliver Wendell Holmes, John Milton, Margaret Deland, John Keats, William Blake, and Shakespeare among many others, presented in an attractive format reflecting the period.

Sobre Caravan Book Store

For more than 65 years, we have specialized in rare and out of print books on the Western experience, satisfying a vast and varied clientele. Our focus is on early California and Los Angeles, represented by books, ephemera, paintings, and prints. Fine press, printing history, literature, gastronomy, aviation, railroads, and voyages are also available. Our store opened in downtown Los Angeles in 1954, and is now closed; but we are still available by phone, regular mail, and email. We issue occasional catalogs online.
