Hardcover Book in Near Fine Condition with a Very Good Jacket. Sepia drawings by Leonard Everett Fisher. This is the story of an Alaska fur seal and her companions in the great Pribilof Islands that had a herd of more than a million animals when the book was written. It follows her month by month through the islands as she withstands cold, finds fish in the darkness, avoids killer whales, recovers from hookworm parasites, and how she does this, written by a prominent biologist who studied and followed her in her struggles. Binding of orange cloth with blind-stamped seal partially submerged on the front, gilt lettered on spine. Very clean and bright, with slight rubbing to the lower edges. Solid and tight sewn binding. Endpapers with map in browntones of The Track of the Golden Seal in the North Pacific. Brown print on clean and unmarked heavy paper. Jacket illustrated with mama seal and her pups. Clean with slight edgewear, a closed half inch tear on the upper edge. 205 pages with Page Reference Notes and Index. 9 x 6.75 inches. 1970, Charles Scribner's Sons. New York, New York, USA
