Len Deighton is a British author known for his novels on espionage and military history. He was born in 1929 and carried out his national service in the RAF before studying art and then becoming an illustrator and a novelist. This particular novel tells the story of protagonist Steve Champion, a businessman and former head of an anti-Nazi group during the Second World War. The many questions surrounding Champion's past lead to an investigation on the former-spy, lead by his oldest wartime ally.
