First-person account by one of the first group of 9 nuns who opened a mission in Honolulu, Hawaii, the first such mission is the islands, where she taught from 1938-1945 to children of all races & faiths. The book is in the form of a diary & letters that she sent to her Sisters back in the US, recounting not only humorous & heartwarming experiences, but all the terrors of the Pearl Harbor attack on 7 Dec 1944. In 377 pages with pen-and-ink illustrations throughout by Walter Kiyabu, map endpapers, & SIGNED with an inscription to title page in blue ink. With sepia cloth-covered boards lettered in brown to front & spine, this hardcover 8vo is a FIRST EDITION, first printing, from 1950. Condition is VG: very clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages creamy white with age-appropriate tanning, a bit heavier to edges. Slight rubbing to extremities, heavier to all corners & both ends of spine. NO DJ, but remnants of it laid in. bumping to both corners & ends of spine. The unclipped DJ is : colorful with edgewear, small chips, short tears; nicely protected in new mylar cover Free!
