The authors reveal a shocking realization which Judy fought against all her life: her handsome, talented father Frank was a homosexual. The effect this had on a sensitive child appeared later in her life, yet Judy never admitted to more than an un-questioning love for her father. It was that love and that devotion that kept Judy and her mother estranged through a lifetime. Frank's death in 1935, which coincided with Judy's own leap to stardom at MGM studios, left her totally unprepared to deal with the intensity of loneliness, dissillusionment, strain and suffering that a glamorous star pays for fame.
