The author, Abraham Gottschall or Godshalk, was the minister of the Doylestown (Pa.) Mennonite Church from 1824 to his death in 1838. In Very Good Condition: edges are rubbed; slight loss of leather at ends of spine; leather starting to separate along front joint from tail of spine; boards slightly soiled; occasional light foxing; some pages have darkened more than others; a solid copy of this scarce American Mennonite work.

Contemporary full calf with six spine compartments between raised bands. Gilt-tooled title "Vie de S. Vinc. de Paul" on red morocco label in second compartment. Gilt-decoration in remaining compartments. All page edges red. Error in signing: Qv signed Qvi. Printed paper label on front fixed endpaper for bookseller Louis-Guillaume Labottiere, Bordeaux. In an old hand on title page: "ex libris Congregationis Missionis domus Burdigalensis Catalogo inscriptus." Short inscription on front fixed endpaper. The author, Pierre Collet (1693-1770), wrote this biography following the beatification in 1729 and canonization in 1737 of St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660).
