White cloth, stamped in gilt, top edge gilt; silver floral endpapers; 116pp; 11 plates, with numerous additional illustrations and decorations in grey and sepia, decorative title page printed in three colors. Straight and sound, cloth much foxed and gently rubbed, but internally clean: Very Good.
The elaborate first edition of Norris' first book, a medievalist narrative poem strikingly different from his later naturalist fiction. Norris is now best known for McTeague (twice adapted to film, and regarded as the first major work of American literary naturalism) and his "Epic of Wheat," an uncompleted trilogy. BAL 15024.
