np: the Author, 1961. Charles Matlack Price moved to New York City after graduating from Harvard and worked in a number of publishing houses and advertising agencies. He soon established himself as an authority on American visual design, particularly the art of the poster, which was the subject of his first book in 1911. He would go on to publish a number of books on commercial art and editorial layout and later taught at both the American School of Design and the Rhode Island School of Design.
