A very good copy with excellent provenance - signed and inscribed by the author Luc Haesaerts and dedicated to Madame Lyle. Haesaerts thanks her for her hospitality during his stay at Barrington Court and is dated Barrington, le 22 Sept 1935. (The Lyles took over the lease of Barrington Court from the National Trust and oversaw and financed its extensive restoration - the Lyles had made their money from sugar i.e. Tate & Lyle). This copy is no. 517 of 1000. 703 pages, colour frontispiece and black and white images throughout. Original cream cloth binding with paper on-lay to the front front board, very good with a little general wear and rubbing, a little dust marked. Contents clean and tight, minimal spotting to page edges, otherwise unmarked. A very good copy with outstanding provenance signed by Luc Haesaerts..

An unusual copy that not only is in fine condition but is signed by the author and thirty-four additional artists in the book. This will help the collector and gallery owner to recognize the authentic signatures of leading Chicago artists. The earlier edition (1998) was issued in paper but this edition not only expands in size and number of artists but is a well-designed hardcover with a beautiful dust jacket with the cover by Eleanor Himmelfarb.

Contains a foreword by Pepler plus a list of the items in the exhibition, three with hand written notes, including prices for the items. Printed on Caslon O. F white paper, sewn. Loosely inserted is a hand printed invite to the private preview on Sunday may 5th, 2.30-6pm. (one sheet, 10.9 x 3.8 inches, folded once). Los Angeles, 1927; Original Leo Cotton pen and ink drawing of Dorothy MacKaye, notorious actress at the center of the scandal that rocked Hollywood in 1927 when her husband, musical comedy star Ray Raymond, was beaten to death by popular actor Paul Kelly, with whom McKaye was involved in a love triangle. While serving time in San Quentin for her part in the crime, MacKaye wrote "Women In Prison," which in 1933 was made into the Warner Bros. film "Ladies They Talk About," starring Barbara Stanwyck and Preston Foster, and again in 1942 as "Lady Gangster," with Faye Emerson and Jackie Gleason. Artist Leo Cotton (1880-1946) was longtime art director of the Los Angeles Examiner where his illustrations for years were a regular feature of the newspaper’s format. In the fine arts arena he is noted for his California landscape paintings, in particular those of the Palm Springs desert region. Original exhibition catalog issued on the occasion of an exhibition of books containing illustrations by celebrated painter, engraver, publisher and illustrator Jean-Gabriel Daragnes - specifically, woodcuts. Illustrated with an original portrait etching of Daragnes by Andre Dunoyer de Segonzac, 11 black-and-white Daragnes plates, three depicting lesbian scenes, and an original Daragnes hand-colored engraving laid in showing a husband walking in on his wife in bed with her lover - a scene from Fielding's Tom Jones.
