Idylls Of the King
de Tennyson, Alfred Lord
The Idylls of a King was published between 1859 and 1885 as a collection of 12 narrative poems by the English Poet, Lord Alfred Tennson. The collection regales the legend of King Arthur and his knights, his love for Guinevere and her tragic betrayal of him, and the rise and fall of Arthur's kingdom. The whole work recounts Arthur's attempt and failure to lift up mankind and create a perfect kingdom, from his coming to power to his death at the hands of the traitor Mordred. Individual poems detail the deeds of various knights, including Lancelot, Geraint, Galahad, and Balin and Balan, and also Merlin and the Lady of the Lake. The poems were dedicated to the late Prince Consort Albert. The Idylls are written in blank verse.

London: Edward Moxon published a 1st edition in 1859, as a first issue hardcover. It is distinguished by a blank verso of title-page, light green blindstamped cloth with title in gilt on spine
New York: R. H. Russell published a 1st Edition Thus in 1898 as hardcover. Illustrated with sixty original decorations by brothers George Wooliscroft Rhead & Louis Rhead, which are reminiscent of some of Morris' Kelmscott editions. Original white cloth stamped in red and black, top edge gilt.
Otras ediciones de colección
London & New York: Hodder & Stoughton, published the 1st Brickdale Edition in 1911 as a hardcover. Illustrated by Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale. Brown cloth blocked on the spine and upper boards with titles in gilt and designs in dark brown. Illustrated endpapers. Twelve full color full page plates by Brickdale. Contains "Enid," "Vivien," "Elaine" and "Guinevere" from Tennyson's Idylls. The designs on the upper board incorporate King Arthur's shield and crest, both forms of the expected dragon rampant.
London: Macmillan and Co. published a limited edition of Idylls of a King in 1906, as a clothbound hardcover. Near-contemporary green morocco by Truslove & Hanson with gilt Art Nouveau decorative tooling to spine compartments and front cover, spine lettered in gilt, gilt ruled turn-ins, marbled endpapers, gilt edges.
