Red coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip Illustrated dustwrapper with green, red and black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. The author kept a war diary detailing his adventures in British intelligence in the Italian South, and, more particularly it is a portrait of the port city of Naples as it was caught between the invading allies and the retreating Germans. Softening of the back strip edges along with a hint of fading. Age toning of the text block edges and pages. Previous owners' rubber stamp to the top edge of the verso of the front paste-down and title page (well-known Holocaust scholars). A little creasing of the dustwrapper edges with rubbing of the panels along with some grubby marks. Fading of the back strip and sunning to the rear panel.
