The book is mainly for the beginner, and for anyone who does not quite know what is involved in becoming a yachtsman. It deals mainly with dinghies, whether for racing or just pottering about, but it covers all fundamental things that matter when handling boats of any size. Sailing, like any sport, is something you must get the feel of, and this can only partially be covered by the written words. Books do, however, provide the basic knowledge, and it is the author's purpose to do this, as well as to communicate something of the unique pleasure to be had from the command of your own craft, however small. Apart from the handling of the boat, the book also deals with such things as choice of boat, how and where to buy, and how to do your own maintenance.
