Descripción:
London: Rider and Company, 1976. Hardback small octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in good dustjacket), top edge foxed, flaps creased jacket (few small tears, two small pieces missing top edge, white background lightly marked, light foxing edges, some edgewear, sticker mark) 147 pp. Unto Tahtinen explains the meaning of ahimsa or non-violence. Compares, for the first time, the different meanings of ahimsa in Jainism, Buddhism, and Vedism. The book also contains sections on himsa or violence, including violence against against oneself and causes of violence. Some other moral norms are discussed, such as self-control, truthfulness, forbearance, friendliness, compassion and non-stealing. There are specific chapters devoted to ahimsa in relation to war and crime, and ahimsa as exemplified by Mahatma Gandi and Vinoba Bhave.
