HAROLD AUGENBRAUM is director of the Mercantile Library of New York and its Center for World Literature./e Among his publications are Latinos in English (1992), Growing Up Latino: Memories and Stories (1993) and The Latino Reader: An American Literary Tradition from 1542 to the Present (1997). He is also an editor of the forthcoming Norton Anthology of Latino Literature of the United States.

MARGARITE FERNNDEZ OLMOS is Professor of Spanish at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. She has lectured and written extensively on Caribbean and Latin American literatures. She is co-editor of Contemporary Women Authors of Latin America: New Translations and Introductory Essays (1983) and Remaking a Lost Harmony: Stories from the Hispanic Caribbean (1997, co-edited and translated with Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert). Her other publications include The Latino Reader: An American Literary Tradition from 1542 to the Present (1997) co-edited with Harold Augenbraum, and Rudolfo A. Anaya: A Critical Companion (Greenwood, 1999).
