Author's first book by a regular trade publisher. Author Ellen Gilchrist's copy with her ownership signature on the front fly, with an untitled nine line poem by Gilchrist on the verso of the rear fly, about the capacities of the U.S. and the Soviet Union to destroy each others missiles in forty-five minutes, The first line of the poem is "We are the great power..." Underneath the poem is a seven line explanation of the poem in Gilchrist's hand. The poem appears to be unpublished. Gilchrist won a National Book Award for her collection of short stories *Victory Over Japan.*.
