It remains the only dictionary of Australian and New Zealand English compiled on historical principles. The dictionary is a very readable book and will interest anyone working with language, and it is a useful general reference dictionary of Australasian English. There is a specially contributed foreword by H. L. Rogers, Professor of Early English Literature and Language and Chairman of the Australian Language Research Centre, University of Sydney.
