Illustrated endpapers, both different, the front endpapers advertising the Princess Theatre farewell performances of Mr Wilson Barrett and the rear endpapers advertising Charles Reade adaptation of the French play L'assommoir -- which he called -- Drink. The text is illustrated with 100 black-and-white contemporary photographs and for black-and-white illustrations within the text. Purple coloured boards with black insert gilt edging is to the backstrip and within that black insert gilt titles. A little rubbing to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and bumping to the lower edge. Some faint fading to the edges of the backstrip and shelf wear to the lower book edges.
