The pages are tanned; both the half title page and the title page carry an offset streak from the photo on the front paste down, and the head's outer edge is bumped. Overall a clean, unmarked and solid copy, though obviously second hand. "Biography of Albert Jacka, first member of the AIF to be awarded a Victoria Cross in the First World War. The book follows his military career and return to civilian life, the collapse of his business and success as Mayor of St Kilda where he was known for his tireless work amongst the poor during the Depression. The author is a history teacher who wrote his doctoral thesis on the effect of the First World War on Australian society.
