Toronto: McClelland & Stewart, 1985. (CAD) First printing of the Canadian First edition. No markings, there is a long wrinkle to the cloth of thr spine (a manufacturing fault) otherwise Fine in unclipped Near Fine dust jacket. Hardcover, 246pp. Black Robe is an account of the 17th-century encounter between the Huron and Iroquois the French called "Les Sauvages" and the French Jesuit missionaries the native people called "Blackrobes," This may be Brian Moore's most striking book, which so well captured both the intense--and disastrous--strangeness of each culture to one another. The novel was adapted into the 1991 film Black Robe directed by Bruce Beresford, for which Moore wrote the screenplay. (1.6 JM HOQ 102/3 or 2. 1st. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾".

Descripción:
A lovely first edition, first printing, inscribed by the author on the title page and protected in an archival cover. The book is inscribed to Burt Heward, the then-book editor of the Ottawa Citizen (and a former colleague).Burt both reviewed the book and interviewed Moore during his book tour in March, 1985, which was when Moore signed the book for Burt.
Burt, who died in 2022 at age 83, was a journalist and editor for 40 years, most of that time at the Citizen. When he died, he left a large and distinguished library. A copy of his obituary in the Citizen will be laid-in, as will the review of the book and the interview with Moore (which I have also included in the photos).
