Description: A beautifully illustrated little travel book on Japan. The ''Emperor's Road'' is the Tokaido. It was down this road in 1832 that a detachment of the Edo fire-brigade traveled with a gift from a shogun to the emperor. One of the minor officials on the trip was Ichiyo Hiroshige, and he spent most of his time sketching. The results of these sketches appeared some time later back in Edo when he published a series of prints showing the fifty-three stations of the Tokaido.
