Romare Bearden (1911-1988) is internationally recognized as the dean of Black American artists. His visual idiom involves montage and collage elements in combination with forms and styles that echo those of African sculpture, and is orchestrated by a deft manipulation of mass and volume. Includes a chronology, list of exhibitions, selected bibliography, and numerous large illustrations of Bearden's drawings, paintings, and collages from 1940 to the present.
