With 325 plates, including commentary by the artist -- "At the request of my publisher, Harry N. Abrams, I reluctantly-- if amiably -- agreed to write a few notes to accompany some of the plates in this book. They were dictated off the top of my head on March 11 and 12, 1976, and are to be read in that light." (pg 95). A somewhat scarce first edition copy of Motherwell's work, including photos of his studios and a preface by Bryan Robertson. The perfect companion to his work, as his commentary on art was just as influential as the paintings themselves.
