Some fading to spine of unclipped dustwrapper, shelf-wear to bottom edge of black boards, some yellowing to the pages, but otherwise a not too bad, tight copy of this slim hard-cover book. Originally written in Spanish as "Viudas" and here translated by Stephen Kessler, the story set in Greece during WW2, involves the body of an unknown man found in a river after the men of the village have all been taken away by the occupying troops. Each of the women of the village claims the body as that of her husband. The story was really referring to the" Disappeared" (desaparecedos) in Chile, but was not allowed to be published there at the time. 146pp.. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
