The Annals by Owen, historical facts in outline fashion, continue that history from statehood in 1819 to 1900. Alabama was settled by the Spanish, French, and British during the colonial period. These early settlers immediately encountered native Indians and one of the strengths of this work is its treatment of the Indians of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana including the Mobilians, Chatots, Thomez, Tensas, Chocktaws, Chickasaws, Cherokees, and others.
