Otherwise a tight book with flawless interior text and illustration pages. On exhibit were both color and black-and-white portraits. Having one's portrait taken in the eighteenth century was no small matter. Today we take photographic portraiture as a matter of course, and even in the early nineteenth century one could have inexpensive silhouettes made at comparatively low cost; but in the 1700s portraits were not cheap, and required an investment of time for both sitter and artist.
