Descripción:
New York/Paris/Sydney/Toronto: Shevchenko Scientific Society, 1986. History of this once-prosperous trade center & the San River valley, under Austrian control from 1772 until 1918, when it was ceded to Poland, under whose rule it has remained; many acts of what we would now call 'ethnic cleansing' occurred around the end of the Second World War as Ukrainians were driven out of their ancestral lands or killed by Polish communists. The book argues that the region was always majority-Ukrainian even when under Polish control, and that considerable white-washing of history was perpetrated by the Polish government just after the war during this 'cleansing.' Text in Ukrainian. Stout hardcover, burgundy cover, gilt titling. Light wear to book, minor scuffs; no jacket. Text clean; xviii, 797 pages; index, b/w photos, figures, small folding color map. Text in Ukranian.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 7½" by 10½".
