Franzisca Bernadina Wilhelmina Elisabeth Ney was a celebrated German-American sculptor who spent the first half of her life and career in Europe, producing portraits of famous leaders such as Otto von Bismarck, Giuseppe Garibaldi and King George V of Hanover. At age 39, she immigrated to Texas with her husband, Edmund Montgomery, and became a pioneer in the development of art there. Among her most famous works during her Texas period were life-size marble figures of Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin. A large group of her works are housed in the Elisabet Ney Museum, located in her home and studio in Austin. Elisabet Ney was born in Germany in 1833, she emigrated to Texas in 1872. She was a sculptor, working in marble. Her sculptures of Stephen F Austin and Sam Houston are in the Texas Capital. There is an Elizabet Ney Museum in Austin. The book is in near fine condition; nearly unread. The dust jacket has minor shelf wear at the corners and at the upper spine. The author has inscribed, signed and dated the book on the front-end paper.
