This is copy 124 of 375 copies printed on Heritage cream laid paper. Two small wood engravings by Hellmuth Weissenborn on page preceding title page and at colophon. Hand-set in 14-point Caslon, printed in black and brown; Quarter binding in black buckram and Whittington marbled paper by Smith Settle, gilt rules and spine titling, Colorplan Bagdad Red endpapers, top edge maroon, rest uncut. [Butcher 53]. First appearing circa 1911 in a little-known magazine called "Orpheus," "The Chessplayer" describes a recurring, haunting dream using vivid language and Blake-like imagery. The two other essays, 'The Listener' and 'Penderyn' were hitherto unpublished. Philip Edward Thomas (1878 - 1917) was a British poet, essayist, and novelist.
