This is the story of the Heytesbury Forest, a region in the South West of Victoria. As an area it has been totally neglected by professional historians, yet, according to the authoress, it is of immense interest to the history student, the conservationist and the sightseer. The Forest, itself, is at the southern extremity of the great, pastoral Western District. It was first settled by Dr Daniel Curdie who established a large squatting run there. Over the years it has occasionally provided a temporary shelter for the survivors of shipwrecks which have occurred along the cruel, treacherous coast.
