His subjects include the simple homes, lighthouses and windmills, delicate flowers and enduring trees, sweeping panorama of dunes and ocean surf, and wildlife. Twenty writers are represented in quotations edited by Allen Young to provide context and continuity for the engravings--from the 19th century essays of Henry David Thoreau to the contemporary verse of Marge Piercy, Brendan Galvin and Mary Oliver.
