This new and enlarged edition takes us to the end of 1946. It was in January of that year that John Lehman terminated his partnership with Leonard Woolf, which prompted Woolf to sell Lehman's share in the business to be sold to Chatto & Windus. Although Woolf continued to read manuscripts and called in at the Chatto & Windus offices in London on a regular basis, his active participation in running the firm declined from that point on.
