Includes: Illustrations, Maps. 8 portraits including that of Sir Cloudesley Shovell The admiral died in 1707 off the Scillies. According to the accounts, a "common seaman" told the admiral the admiral was wrong about the ship's longitude and that ship was in danger of shipwreck. He was hanged for his impertinence and shortly thereafter the ship went aground: the admiral drowned. It was just a few years after that when Voltaire declare it was dangerous to be right when "those in power" were wrong but that he, Voltaire, would defend to the death the right to state what is right. Easy statement to make, but whose death was it?
