Illustrated endpapers, showing a digital photograph of 1930's scene. Black and white photographic frontispiece showing early settlers in the region. The text is profusely illustrated with black and white photographs, maps, illustrations, and the occasional coloured photograph. Maroon coloured boards with gilt writing on spine. Corners scuffed and rubbed and there is bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine. Illustrated dustwrapper, by Keith Howland, with maroon background and yellow and white writing on front panel and spine. Corners of the dustwrapper are scuffed and rubbed and there is rubbing along the fore edges of book.
