Descripción:
From the Introduction: "In the forging of the Canadian nation, one of the greatest accomplishments was the securing of a railway from sea to sea. This railway, the Canadian Pacific, was one of the conditions of British Columbia's entry into the Canadian Confederation.""Once the railway was completed, the infrastructure required to support it was enormous. In this book I pay tribute to the station agents, who, often on duty twenty-four hours a day, were responsible for the day-to-day operation of their stations, the nerve centres of their community. Now only a memory, these station agents were a vital force in knitting this country together."
