This updated tale of courage and daring is based on the Creole mutiny, November 7, 1841. It is perhaps the largest and only successful slave revolt in the history of that vile system. Madison Washington, a slave, led this rebellion. He symbolizes the suffering and the gallantry of African Americans and their early struggles for freedom. This fictionalized account of Madison Washington, the slave who inspired the mutiny aboard the brig Creole, will enrage you at the injustices of slavery, but it will also warm your heart by the love and camaraderie shown by the slaves toward one another. There is not much known about the day to day life of Madison Washington. That he was of great physical stature, was eloquent in his speech, did in fact cause a rebellion aboard the Creole and sailed to the Bahamas where he was imprisoned and sentenced to hang, are indisputable facts. That he had previously escaped from slavery traveled to Canada and voluntarily returned to the south in order to rescue his beautiful wife, is also well documented. The audacity of Madison Washington is briefly mentioned in Frederick Douglas', The Heroic Slave, Autographs for Freedom, and there is some mention of him in Henry Wilson's, History of The Rise and Fall of the Slave Power in America. Old newspaper accounts, court records, and a bit of scholarly research afford us the opportunity to wrap the actual events of this monumental event around a fictionalized account of Madison Washington, the man. His story will thrill you! He is bold, determined, and daring. Charles J. (Chuck) Boyle grew up in rural Pennsylvania, entering the army as a private in 1958. He rose swiftly threw the ranks, earning a commission through Infantry Officers Candidate School in 1966. He retired as a Major in 1978. As a second career, Chuck spent more than 20 years as the Senior Army Instructor for Junior Reserve Officer Training, teaching thousands of teenagers good citizenship and leadership at the high school level. He retired from teaching in 2002. He now devotes his time to writing, publishing, and motivational speaking. Chuck was assigned to Vietnam during 1967-68 where he commanded a platoon in combat. During the Tet Offensive of 1968, he was selected to command Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 25th Infantry Division. Among his many awards are two Silver Stars for gallantry in action, two Bronze Stars for heroism, the Purple Heart, and numerous other awards. Chuck received his B.A. in History from the University of Tampa in 1973. Subsequently, he served as Assistant Professor of Military Science at Marion Military Institute in Alabama. In 1993, he began teaching in Clinton, Louisiana, where he researched the origins and culture of his African American high school students. As a historical picture of them began to emerge, his studies brought him to what is commonly known as, "The Creole Affair of 1841." He could not resist writing the story to share with his students. Now in paperback and as an Amazon Kindle eBook, his visualization of Madison Washington, the heroic slave who led the revolt on the Creole, is available to all. Chuck continues to research, write, and speak about that abominable institution, slavery. Currently he makes his home in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Chuck is married, has three adult children and nine grandchildren. He has also authored, Absolution, Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 22nd Infantry, a true story of one man's journey across the battlefields of Vietnam. His recent release of, The Soul of A Slave, Madison Washington and The Creole Mutiny, is a fictionalized account of the life of a slave in the 1840s and his heroic break for freedom. Chuck recently co-authored, The Legend of Mystic Mountain and The Singing Rocks, a Kindle eBook for children. He is currently writing, Is There Anybody Down Range? A book about the ten best soldiers he ever met during his 40 years in an Army uniform.
