I give credit to my great, great grandmother, Rachel, for being the original author of this book. She kept a daily journal on their trek into Iowa from Indiana in the spring of 1856. I've always been interested in the pioneer life and stories about the issues of slavery. My 3rd great grandmother, Deborah, has an interest in quilting and story telling in this story. I've made a few quilted wall hangings in my life!!The time spent in research for this story was better spent than time sitting and cross stitching! My grandfather, Hervey, kept to the family business of farming and I enjoyed my early years spending time in this place where the Coffins settled. My husband and I made a migration move into Arizona upon my graduation from the University of Iowa in 1953. My teaching career, here in the Tucson area, inspired me to use this 'journal' to tell a story.
