They were discussing about the warfare, as soldiers and mariners were fond to do, and someone spoke: "Who, of all the workers in the Crimea, will be longest remembered?" Every visitor was suggested to comment on this matter, and all of them scribbled a name on a sheet of paper. There were a number of sheets, but when they were about to be checked there was just one name, for all of them had scribbled the name of Florence Nightingale.
